Music

The next Music & Drama Service will be on Sunday 25th November 2007

Cannon Lane has a tradition of using a number of different musical styles and respecting the musical preferences of the wide age range that worship with us.

Organists
The church currently has 4 organists: Avis Gerry, Chris Hull, Nigel Rackham and Janet Sweet. Organists play for services on a rota. Contact Avis Gerry our senior organist for more information.

Church Orchestra
The church orchestra plays for special services during the church year.  It involves experienced musicians as well as encouraging those embarking on an orchestral instrument.  Please contact Avis Gerry for more information.

Music Groups
Over the past few years Charlie Churchill has established and promoted music groups at many of our services.  Charlie, a worship leader at Cannon Lane, has also worked establishing a group at Eastcote Methodist church and was instrumental (pardon the pun!) in setting up the successful band “Something Better”.  Here are some further details from Charlie that were published recently in our Christmas Bulletin:

  • Something Better – Lizzie and Emma , who contributed so much to establishing the band, played their last at the ‘Concert for Miles’ in June.  The boys have developed their blend of acoustic harmonies writing original material along with creative versions of popular songs.  They have also been on their travels both at Love Lane and at Pinner United Free Church.
  • The Saga Trio continue to defy their youthful years with bouncy Junior Praise songs and revitalising old favourites from days gone by.
  • Nimrod have shown their adaptability – from X:alts at here and at Kenton to working with the Eastcote young people to start the Eastcote Youth band - playing 3 times for morning worship and at their Carol Service.  More is planned for 2007.
  • The ‘Little Worship Band’ played with distinction and confidence at the Junior Church and Church Anniversaries; we hope to see them again next year – drummer Lauren Dowsett also joined the Eastcote Youth Band to play at the Circuit service in February.

Thursday singing group
This group meets regularly and visits local residential homes for performances of “Songs from the Shows”.    At Christmas, they sang carols at several local homes and were well received. The group have recently taken part in a  sponsored Sing for Life,  in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust on Thursday 15th March.
