Learning & Caring

The church at Cannon Lane is open to learning and sharing in different ways. We have taken part in ecumenical courses at Lent with the other churches in Pinner and small groups have recently been studying the Living Faith material.  In the past we have also studied the Calling Out course to encourage evangelism.  A church away day lead to a strategy based on 4 areas: small groups, prayer, outreach and training. Details of currently running activities are given below. Outreach is covered elsewhere on this site - click HERE for more information

Cannon Lane members have supported a number of both international and local charities in the past both financially and practically.  These have included: Leprosy Mission, Signpost International, Karibuni Trust, THATCH (The Homeless and the Churches in Harrow), Kidscanachieve and Community Link-up.

Prayer
A major part of our learning and sharing involves prayer.  Following the church strategy day, we now have prayer triplets set up, a prayer chain, a weekly prayer group that meets on a Friday between 12.30 and 13.30 at the church and a monthly time of prayer and praise at the church on a Friday evening. A Prayer Team is available every Sunday after worship.

Pastoral Care
The church has a well developed pastoral care system looking after its 58 members. This caring network can be through the formal allocation pastoral visitors but also through mens group social functions, Wednesday Fellowship meeting, study groups ... in fact anytime the church family meets

Study Groups
There are a several study groups running at any one time.  Topics/material used recently include:

  1. “Challenging Lifestyles” - contact Jenny Cook for more information
  2. “The Ten Commandments” - contact Marc Searjeant for further details about this 20 week course
  3. “Searching Issues” takes place every Wednesday afternoon at the Manse. Contact Mike Hall for more info.
  4. Life Worth Living
  5. Alpha
  6. Heart of Revival
  7. Lord’s Prayer

Support for Charities
Both the church and the Junior Church have a nominated charity each year.  Our nominated charity for 2007/8 is KidsCanAchieve based in Pinner.  KidsCanAchieve supports children aged 2 -19 years who have education, emotional, social or psychological difficulties, which is not supported in the main stream.  In previous years we have supported:
2006/7
The Templeton Centre
2005/6
Harrow Bereavement Care
2004/5
Signpost International

In 2008, the proceeds from the Bazaar will be split between KidsCanAchieve and The Karibuni Trust and the Harvest Service collection will be for the Watford New Hope Trust

In addition, we annually support Christian Aid week and help with door to door collections

Fairtrade
Many members actively support  Fairtrade:

  • we are a Fairtrade church
  • we run regular Traidcraft stalls after Sunday services (click HERE to see rota)
  • We have Fairtrade breakfasts
  • we supported Fairtrade fortnight by helping man a stall outside Sainsbury’s in Pinner
