A Vision for Mission and Ministry at Cannon Lane We want everyone in the Church to contribute their thoughts, ideas and suggestions towards establishing a clear vision for its mission, and ministry in the next few years. To this end, starting at the end of January, we shall be working through a series of six sessions called Intelligent Church by Faith Works. This material will help us explore what an effective church should look like in the 21st Century and how it can equip itself in a relevant and credible way. Today is the last Sunday to sign up and join one of the study groups, so please don’t let the opportunity for you to have your say in the future vision for our Church pass you by. Kathy Matthew

Further details will be issued soon, but in the meantime, please ensure that this date is put into your diary if you are eligible to attend. Church Giving - make the Chancellor pay As the tax year end has now come and gone I thought it would be timely to encourage those of you who do not currently, to Gift Aid your giving to the Church. Gift Aid is a means for charities to reclaim income tax which has been suffered by its donors. It is easy for the Church to administer and painless for you, so why do only a minority of Church members give tax efficiently? Some common misconceptions:
"I don't feel able to commit to a regular sum or long term" - actually NO COMMITMENT is required. All you need to do is say you want your giving to be treated as under the Gift Aid scheme and the whatever you give will be covered. You don't need to give a regular sum or over any particular period. In fact it applies equally to one-off payments
"It is not worth it for such a small amount" - it may seem small to you but if everyone gave a small amount under Gift Aid the tax would all add up, so don't hold back!
"I'm not in full time employment" - this is about paying tax - most pensioners pay (interest and pensions are taxable) and most part time earnings trigger the tax threshold. You only have to pay enough tax in one tax year to cover the notional tax on your giving, and if your circumstances change you just tell the charity.
So what is holding you back? Every pound you give enables the Church to reclaim 28p. Please speak to Nigel Rackham (or email rackham60@tiscali.co.uk)
If anyone would like to give regularly either using the envelope scheme or by standing order then Nigel will also be pleased to hear from you!

These are vulnerable young people who may have not had to cook or cater for themselves before. With this in mind the YMCA has asked if we can collect or donate items from the under-mentioned list as part of the basic starter packs for these folk:
Cutlery Mugs Ironing board Bedding Frying pan Saucepans wooden spoons Baking sheets Small Casserole Dishes Colander Measuring jug Measuring spoons Bowl Towels Tea towels
in fact, anything suitable for a small bed-sit, or if you would rather, they would be very happy to have Money donations.
A representative will also be at our coffee morning on the Saturday 5th and at the Gift Service when a presentation will be made to tell us more about the work they are doing at Roxeth Gate, and we will be able to present our gifts to them. We do hope you will be able to give generously.
